CANCERLAND

R29 SHORT CUTS X #CANCERLAND

Roughly 100 people die every day of breast cancer in the U.S. — and virtually all of these deaths are from metastatic breast cancer. That's individual people — moms, daughters, sisters, friends — multifaceted women for whom cancer is just one thing, not everything. In October 2017, we told the stories of these women who found strength in their sense of self, power in their beauty, and who refused to let an incurable, deadly disease tell their story for them.

This social-first campaign in partnership with the non-profit #Cancerland was created to bring awareness to Stage IV breast cancer. It included 3 feature articles, 4 Facebook Live events, a town hall, a march on Washington, a lingerie fashion show, a guest appearance by Mina Sorvino, and 11 video profiles that were utilized for short form beauty tutorials, gifable moments, and a long form feature narrative.

This project is a 2017 CLIO Award winner in the Beauty For Social Good category, a Shorty Award finalist, and Webby honoree.
